Face masks are one of my favourite skin care products because they are so easy to apply, great fun to use with friends and are great at delivering instant results. I mean, who doesn’t want the feeling of tightened, toned and glowing skin after a single use?
Should everyone use a face mask? Absolutely, yes. Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you get rid of that dull, tired look. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help clear away impurities and improve the appearance of your pores. Of course, the other great reason is the feeling of being pampered like you’re at a spa and all from the comfort of your own home.
Every healthy skin care routine includes daily and weekly use products but using a face mask together with your regular recommended products will bring you even better results. Best to use a mask twice a week, three times if your skin tends to be oily or if you have open pores and it works for both men and women.
Here is 5 Reasons to incorporate a Face Mask into your routine:
Applying a face mask doesn’t just offer results that improve the overall appearance of your skin, it can also be quite therapeutic. Our Vitality Super Vitamin Facial Mask is infused with aromatic essential oils like neroli, sandalwood, rose and mandarin and can lift your spirits by stimulating your senses. Treat the application as a luxury. Set aside a bit of “me” time when you decide to give yourself a mask. Bath time is good and I love to add a few candles and allow yourself the time to relax and give the magic of the mask some time to work. A twenty-minute unrushed break will not only draw you into a wonderful sensory experience but the relaxation and stress reduction is good for mind and body and leave you with fabulous looking skin.
2. Deep Cleansing
Yes, cleansing each day is very important to help clean your skin by removing dirt, oil, makeup and impurities from the surface of the skin, but doing a facial mask even as little as once a week takes the cleansing process to a whole new level. A good facial mask can help to draw out impurities that hide beneath the top layers of the epidermis, giving a deeper cleansing and detoxing the skin which leads to an improvement in the appearance of pores.
3. Unclog pores
We use French green clay to help remove dirt and absorb excess oils. We also use green tea which will help to remove the build-up of dead skin cells that accumulate on our skin. When you remove all the debris from the surface of your skin, it helps to unclog pores, and clear out any unwanted bacteria harbouring underneath the skins surface. Using a mask defends against anything getting trapped in the pores and getting pushed deeper in there, where it can easily multiply, causing blemishes, spots and breakouts together with a dull complexion and products not working to their full advantage.
4. Glowing Skin
Our Vitality Super Vitamin Facial Mask has a host of super food vitamin and anti-oxidant rich super foods such as wheatgrass, spirulina and rosehips, to help feed the skin, stimulate the circulation and bring an overall improvement in the skin tone, leaving you with softer-feeling and smoother-looking skin, more refreshed and glowing.
5. Increases the benefit of your existing skincare
Regular use of a facial mask actually helps your other skin care products to work more effectively. Using a mask a few times a week means that your serums, balms and moisturisers will be absorbed quicker and more deeply, providing you with better results from your skincare in general.
Apply a Face Mask in 6 Simple Steps:
Step 1: Pop on a headband and start with a thoroughly cleansed face and neck. If you don’t have time for a bath, then take the time to pull back your hair and wear something comfy and at least take a few minutes to relax.
Step 2: I suggest also doing a light facial scrub before applying your mask as this gives a better result. After your scrub, dry off your face and neck and mist on your hydration mist to prepare the skin. This will help you receive all of the benefits that your face mask was designed to deliver.
Step 3: Apply a little eye gel serum around the eye area to protect the delicate skin around the eyes. Then apply your mask directly onto dry skin all over. The skin should be fully covered but there is no need to have the skin coated too heavily. Be sure to extend the mask from your face, down onto your neck and throat. Treat your neck and chest area as an extension of your face. After all, you don’t want a young-looking face and a wrinkly neck!
Step 4: Relax for at least twenty minutes if possible, to let the mask work its magic. This is a good time for a bath or some meditation.
Step 5: After the time has passed, wash the mask off with warm water. Hold the wet cloth onto the face to soften any areas that are a little bit dry and need softening up. You don’t want to be too rough when removing it. Use plenty of water and a soft wash cloth to gently wash away the mask.
Step 6: Dry off the face and neck, mist on some hydrating mist and apply your serum, balm or cream as normal.
