Why use a face scrub?
A facial scrub is essential for many reasons. Firstly, it deeply cleanses the skin, loosening dirt and removing grease and grime buildup in the pores. It also smooths and refines the skin’s texture, giving it a soft, supple look and lastly it boosts blood flow to your face and removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, encouraging cells to regenerate faster giving the appearance of fresh glowing skin.
Here are the main benefits to using a facial scrub regularly.
Remove dirt & grime
Whether it’s a grime filled day from a hard day’s work, dust from the city pollution or sweat from a long gym session, there are going to be occasions when your skin needs a deeper cleanse and the regular face wash or cleansing balm will just not do the same job. At times like these, the skin will benefit so much more with the use of a gentle facial scrub to deep cleanse and leave your skin super smooth and prepared for moisturising. If you are a regular gym goer and if especially you wear make-up in the gym ( I know we shouldn’t but we all do it) a facial scrub is a must have in your gym bag.
Spot prevention for a clearer complexion
It’s well known that one of the biggest contributors to spots and breakouts is a build-up of sebum, the naturally occurring oil in the skin, which together with bacteria from sweat, pollution etc causes clogged pores. Using a face scrub twice weekly will help control the build-up, therefore helping to control the breakouts of spots and blemishes that can appear.
Improve the shaving experience for men
The list of shaving benefits from using a facial scrub regularly is long and impressive. As well as deep cleaning your skin before shaving, a facial scrub will remove the dead skin cells that clog up your razor, help lift out tough hairs and greatly improve your razor glide. It can also really help in the prevention of ingrown hairs.
Flaky skin is a common dry skin complaint and although the instant reaction is to reach for extra moisturiser which will help, the real answer is to do a complete facial exfoliation twice weekly to reveal new skin cells underneath. Applying moisturiser on top of flaky skin will not do the same job as the flaky skin is dead and coming off anyhow but at a slower rate and the moisturiser you apply will be treating the dead flaky skin instead of treating the new skin cells growing underneath. Gently buffing away the top layer of flaky skin with a face scrub twice a week will reveal a fresh complexion which when hydrated with a good moisturiser has a much better chance of remaining soft, smooth and flake-free.
Boost ageing skin
Our skin is actually very good at repairing itself, replacing itself in total and regenerating from the inside layers to the surface layer around every thirty days, but as we get older this regeneration process slows down, so we need to give the cell renewal a little boost every now and then. A face scrub will help get rid of the already depleted cells at the surface and speed up the cell renewal bringing an extra boost of rejuvenation and giving the skin a new lease of life.
When & how to use a facial exfoliator
How often you need a facial scrub will vary with your skin type and your age and because of the benefits it brings, it’s easy to get carried away and want use a facial scrub every day but over use can result in drying out the skin and forcing the skin to renew cells faster than is necessary.
If you have particularly oily skin, have a very physical job, play sport regularly or are a regular gym goer, then its best to scrub about three times per week, but under normal circumstances twice per week is fine to give you the healthy glow and be sure that your skin is getting the maximum benefit from your moisturiser.
