Body care in pregnancy, stretchmarks and how to minimise them.
Here are some of the effects pregnancy can have on your skin, the causes and what we recommend.
While you are excited waiting for your new bundle of joy to arrive your skin can change a lot during pregnancy.
You may develop:
Changes in skin colour
Sensitive or itchy skin
This is all because of changes in the level of hormones in your body. You’ll be glad to know that most skin changes disappear after your baby is born.
But still it’s not all bad. The pregnancy bloom or glow is not just a saying. Your skin retains more moisture during pregnancy which plumps it up, smoothing out any fine lines or wrinkles.
Well stretch marks appear because you put on weight. Pregnancy causes your skin to stretch more and faster than ever. After pregnancy, however the marks should gradually fade.
Sadly there isn’t anything you can do to prevent stretch marks, but here is how you can minimise them:
Avoid putting on too much weight too soon (not easy when you are pregnant).
Massage oil or cream over your bump to encourage new tissue growth. The Firming Body Balm or Just Balm is an ideal product for this.
Simply eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins and nutrients.
Other pregnancy issues are not harmful, if you already have a skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis, you may find it can stay the same, get worse or even better during pregnancy. If you are prone to eczema or extreme skin sensitivity, it can become even more sensitive ore reactive during pregnancy so the Just Balm will be your best option as the Firming Body Balm is quite active.
Higher hormone levels, and the fact that your skin has become more delicate may cause your skin to feel more sensitive. Soaps and detergents may cause irritations and it is common for itchiness to come and go during your pregnancy, without any obvious cause.
I would highly recommend the Nía Firming Body Balm for the hips, thighs and bump area and the Just Balm for all expectant mothers and new mammies for use from head to toe for absolutely everything including all the above skin issues as its completely natural and fragrance free. Massage the Firming Body Balm well into your skin to help prevent and fade stretch marks and use the Just Balm to relieve dry sensitive itchy skin. The best part of using the Just Balm is that it’s so gentle you can use it on your new-born baby from head to toe from nappy rash to cradle cap.
